OK, if you really want to do it...

you will want to use the "Limits > Maximum External Depth" option.  This is
how deep to go off the Altavista page.  I would try setting it to 1 and then
tick "Links > Get non-HTML files related to a link".  This should work ok in
HTTrack 3.40

Otherwise try Max External Depth = 2

The "Limits > Maximum mirroring depth" option you set would only apply to the
Altavista site itself, so it would probably allow the program to mirror more
results pages, etc.
