Maybe the site CHANGED from relative to absolute links.
The log file you posted (with the second username/password still visible)
SHOWs that the authorization request comes from WWW.site not site.

So what? Different programs! You browser automatically tries www.site/page if
site/page returns a error. Httrack does not.

completely different places.
