Subject: HTTrack deleting posts from our site?

Hi all,

I searched the forums before asking this - hopefully it's not been answered
somewhere else.

I am a moderator of a fairly high volume forum (for one of the largest World
of Warcraft guilds in the world). When I logged into the site yesterday
morning a huge percentage of the threads were gone, more or less at random.
We lost several thousand posts. Luckily, the site admin was able to recover
them, but he told us that we'd been hacked by a member, who exploited a bug to
delete threads.

When we contacted the member, she said the following:

"I'm working on an academic project and have been planning on studying [the
guild] and how it works as a community in both real/virtual worlds. To help me
on this quest, my boyfriend has been attempting to download a copy of the
forums to a hard disk using a program called HTTrack, I believe. The program
certainly wasn't supposed to delete anything..."

Is this possible? I'm inclined to believe her, but I'd like to confirm this
with the HTTrack folks before we just let it go.

Thanks in advance!

Sara
