Subject: Download limits are a nanny metality

Hi, I read your bit about download limits in terms of speed and this is a joke
with the speeds that are prevalent nowadays.

In your explanation you use the term dial up modem (in the do not overload
your network section). This shows me how old this policy is. Give me the name
of a company, or ANY company, that uses dial-up. They don't. They use
broadband with connection speeds up to 100MB/s and beyond.

My residential speed is 10MB/s via broadband! So for you to limit download
speeds to 50KiB is really ludicrous.

The technology has changed a vast amount since even a few years ago. You now
have terrabyte drives, HTML 5, and many other technologies that were not
around.

I spoke to the Court Reporter for the Arkansas Supreme Court yesterday. A lady
called Susan W*******. I spoke to her about downloading the database of the
Supreme Court decisions from 1837 to 2009. She said that there is no problem
with me doing that as the documents are public record. The problem is that the
database is 200GB in size. Using Httrack to download this would take bloody
WEEKS!

Your attitude (or whoever is behind Httrack) is appalling. You are like the
nanny state - taking it upon yourself to think on our behalf of what nasty
things we may or may not do with the program. You are broadly tarring good
people with the same brush that should be applied to a small minority of
people (20% or less). In other words penalizing the many for the abuses of a
few (IF any). Do you have any proof of people abusing your software? I highly
doubt it. Because of this pathetic mentality I am actively looking for a
different software program to do what I need it to do without any
limitations.

By the way, ALL government records/documents are free of copyright
restrictions. Yet the government have the BIGGEST databases in the world and
usually the FASTEST networks. So your assumptions are way off base. Maybe you
are just too lazy in your programming to create a program that downloads
according to server load.

Start treating your users with respect and they will do the same with you.
