Subject: change directory structure - too many files in dir

Hi,
i want to mirror a forum that has a lot more than 32676
files in one directory www.foobar.net/messages/32676.htm.
The first problem is, i run win98se and i have fat32 file
system so i could store more than (2^16)/2 in one directory.
I tried to copy more files in that directory but explorer
says it cannot be created.
Is it a known problem or do i end up with
reinstalling/reformating windows/the drive (or converting
the drive to fat16 ans then to fat32) ?!?
I thougt of changing the directory structure too.
Maybe sorting depending on the file name like:
www.foobar.net/messages/Yxxxx.htm into
...\messages\Y\xxxx.htm for better performance in explorer
windows etc.
I think i have to write a script for this but yet i donĀ“t
know how to do it.
Can anybody give me a hint for the basic steps - what files
to modify or add?Can you give me an example?
Thank you in advance,
Florian Markstahler
