Thanks for the answer.
Looks like this being a tricky problem.
I guess I will try working backward from the commmand that 
works to remove as many parameters as possible and 
hopefully only one remains that is reponsible for the 
desired behaviour.
Or maybe a change to the newest relase of httrack, sorry I 
didn't mention that we are still on 3.23.
