Eureka!!! I don't know exactly what the problem was 
last night, but it works fine now.  Great!!!

I changed the proxy configuration from "proxy" 
to "http://proxy" and port "8080", giving my userid 
and password.  That worked.

Thought I had done it just this way last night too??? 
but maybe I did the combination of either "proxy:8080" 
in the proxy box or "http://proxy:8080" in the proxy 
box.  These didn't work...
