Of course it can, see related talks on this forum - but it
has to scan then to 'know' their type. Use
the 'Options'/'MIME Types' pannel to enhance this: choose
something like "php,asp" <-> "text/html" - the engine won't
scan these files anymore, and will consider them as pure
html.
