I'd like to use httrack to fetch webcomic pages but I can't figure out how to
get it to only fetch what would be the page displayed on the browser, like
wget can do. It either fetches everything or considerably less than what is
needed to display a page. 

Nothing I have read in the docs have provided sufficient clues.
