while mirroring some site (http://www.fas.org), i 
mentioned, that httrack are getting some very long links, 
like 
www.fas.org/irp//////program/collect/nato-uav-99/z2-IV-
3/index.htm

This is primary a site bug, but i think, you should replace 
multiple //// with / by default, because generally on the 
server side this means the same. 

And another thing. the default number of maximum links 
could be disabled by default. otherwise, if i didn't 
mentioned this, and started mirror of huge site, after some 
time httrack stops, and i need to at least make update. ;-
