Some users surely could use this tip, and you could
possibly add it to the FAQ (unter "Using
user:password@address is not working!" and/or "Can I use
username/password authentication on a site?"):
If the site uses an e-mail address as username or (less
common) as a password, you have to exchange the "@" sign
for "%40". The same goes probably for other characters.
Example:
Instead of
http:// foo@bar.com : password @ www.mirrorsite.com/
you write:
<http://foo%40bar.com:password@www.mirrorsite.com/>
