Rather scathing post.  However.  I can't access that link currently (times
out) to have a look.  HTTrack 3.4 I have found to be quite shaky too in
various situations, and no doubt this will be investigated and fixed.

Have you tried to see what the (previously) .gz files are saved as now?  Does
renaming them from .txt to .gz allow them to be used?  Perhaps they have been
uncompressed, as the program does with gzipped HTML?
