I have the same problem, and have also tried everything G.J.Ellis has tried. 
It's extremely frustrating because the options I select would seem to be the
ones necessary in solving the issue, but they appear to have no effect.  I've
waded through all the options and have not been able to find a way to limit
the spider to a single domain, much less a subset of a site.
