You are right about the "c:\program files\" problem so when installing I
choose an unprotected path.


I included VISTA just in case there was a subtle problem.
The application appears to work perfectly on VISTA. 

The other change my system underwent when I upgraded to VISTA was the internet
access connection type used on this PC (multiple connection options available)
so will look further here.
