I recommend 3.32 (available here
<http://forum.httrack.com/readmsg/17840/17833/index.html> ) over 3.33 but that
won't change your problem.

The ~500 byte files are a snippet of html saying 403/404. Don't get those with
the latest version.)

To get a protected site you'll have to get the cookies to httrack.  Either use
Form-based authentication -
<http://httrack.kauler.com/help/Form-based_authentication>
or copy the cookies.txt file to the mirror directory.  You also have to filter
out the log-out url so httrack doesn't log off the site, deleting the cookie.
