Can cookies be used? A case study problem:
I have read through the postings in regards to cookies and
still don't know what to do.
The website I am trying to copy is www.worldmag.com. It is
a News Magazine that offers free access to anyone who
registers with a username, password, and email address.
I checked the Temporary Internet Files folder and found a
cookie that is related to the website. The cookie is always
in the Windows / Temporary Internet Files Folder; it does
not disappear.
The cookie's characteristics:
Name: world
Its internet address: jc@www.worldmag.com/world
Type: Text Document
Size: 1 KB
Expires: 7/30/20 8:00 PM
Last Modified: 11/29/02 4:41 PM
Last Accessed: 11/29/02 4:41 PM
Last Checked: 11/29/02 4:41 PM
When I opened the cookie in notepad, here are the contents
of the cookie:

I think that the cookie saves the login (username/password)
information.
I have read the posts:
"Can Cookies be used?" with CM
"Cookie Login Question"
and others
I use Internet Explorer 5.5, WinHTTrack 3.22-3, Win98.
It is as if someone who is unregistered tries to read some
of the articles, he is redirected to the registration page.
It is something like this (but not necessarily exactly the
same URL):
In the HTTPTrack copy of the website it has this:
<http://www.worldmag.com/world/register/home.asp?pURL>=%
2Fworld%2Fissue%2F12%2D07%2D02%2Fnational%5F4%2Easp
With the Title "This Page Has Moved." This title is on the
window's title bar.
The Real web page it should get is:
02/national_4.asp. But I don't think that it is reading the
cookie that I placed in BOTH the WinHTTrack Folder and the
project folder. I even saved my project first, as per the
instructions on a different post. When I did, the cookie
that I copy from Windows/Temporary Internet Files was
merged into the cookies.txt file. But it does not help. I
don't think that www.worldmag.com recognizes the cookie of
WinHTTrack.
If all this sounds confusing, I suggest trying the website
copying. It does not take long. (about 100 Kilobytes or 12
articles). For instance, try
<http://www.worldmag.com/world/issue/12-07-02/>
Thank you,
