Your filters look quite normal for when capturing a bulletin 
board.  Another method you could consider is the "exclude 
all, then include specifics":

-* +*.jpg +*.gif +*.etcetc
+www.website.com/forum/topic.php*
+www.website.com/forum/thread.php*

Something along those lines.
