you could also use a text-based web browser such as:
- lynx, basic but available on most distro
- links, more advanced (frame support, download manager...),
but not present by default. Even if you don't need it, it's
really worth trying.

Both are really small programs, and a X version of links
exist, supporting display of generic image formats. Fast and
small, all u need :)
