Been playing with it.

In the options Links dialog, if I add the whole site as an 
exclude, like this:

-http://www.yoursite.com/*

and then add the directory I want:

+http://www.yoursite.com/sampledir/*

(and also exclude pdf's) all is well.

BUT, the order of the requests is important (put the pdf 
bit last! and make it only inside the site!)
