I'm having this problem too. When using -r2, the references
to images (.gif, jpg) on the last level keep pointing to the
website, as is the case with other links. Going one level 
deeper triples the size of the website...
I think "images" should not be dealt with as normal links,
but there should be an option to download all the images
referenced to. 
For quick downloading of a newssite for modem users, this
would realy be handy.
