Well, I don't have much to add to forum users's comments - httrack is not a
"ripping tool", but a backup/presrvation tool. Yes, it can be (ab)used in bad
ways, including illegal copy, denial of service, and even information
harvesting. But I always designed the engine to make these usage difficult or
unsuitable, such as bandwidth limitation, tagging, lack of built-in email
grabbing - most "bad guys" will use more "specialized" tools (emails grabbers,
DOS tools, and so on..)
Note that with default settings, the HTML code of all pages copied by httrack
contains a comment with original site's address and date of copy. This was
originally to handle basic versioning and archive handling, but it is
sometimes useful to "proove" that a site A is a clear copy of the site B.
