I used to use a program called pgp to wipe free space on my drive, apparently
when you delete files on a windows system it basically just gets rid of the
short cut to it and tells the hardrive it has become freespace.

Hence it can be recovered.  Pgp will wipe over the freespace and somehow
remove all data.

Myself I prefer fdisk, it's a killer :)
