There's a problem. I did a Google search on "httrack logs" and found out that I
should be looking for hts-log.txt, which I found with catfish at this strange
location: "/home/george/ /home/george/Websites/[website name]". 

Note the gap in the URL and the duplication of /home/george/.

I could not access that odd place until I did this at the command line: cd
"/home/george/ /home/george/Websites/[website name]" and then just "ls"
whereupon three-and-a-half hours of work came back to light, including a long
list of extraneous stuff from an external site.

This hard drive is USB-connected; maybe that's the problem ...
