I think I have come to the conclusion that the problem is 
not in WinHTTrack as viewing source shows the correct 
characters, however I do get some javascript errors which 
could be related. Have tried WebZip and webReaper to see 
how they faired and got the same problem.

Out of interest, so far WinHTTrack is my favourite.
