Err, really weird. I tried to reproduce the issue, but I couldn't get images
renamed into html files.
The fact images seems to work means that the server successfully delivered the
content, and hence the images should be correctly named.. however, I got some
"Service Unavailable" while downloading content at geocities - there might be
some protection against offline browsers.

Were the .html "images" really okay (that is, valid), once renamed into .gif
?
The 3.40 engine was partially rewritten, so that httrack always names files
_after_ the header was downloaded -- this allows smooth redirects and smooth
dymanic pages naming (such as cgi -> gif or cgi -> html according to the
remote server type), and therefore there might be some bugs remaining!

Thanks for testing the 3.40, by the way!
