Thanks for sticking with me!

I have attempted to use the tool you suggested, using a vareity of settings
but I still can't get it to work correctly.

Perhaps it is because of the design:
1. I have a set of word.html files that are in a web structure. Using tool
that you describe does appear to keep those links intact.

2. However, after clicking through the word.html files the actual .ppt files
are in other locations. The links used to find the .ppt file locations are
manually created inside the word.html. When I attempt the above procedure you
suggest, the links inside the word.htm that go out to the .ppt files do not
appear to have the shorter URLs? I presume this is because the links are
essentially text within the word.html files?
